Instructors at Extra Innings

Extra Innings offers individualized, year round professional baseball and softball instruction. Our staff uses a uniform step-by-step teaching system to encourage positive progress with all our students.

The Extra Innings staff features former and current professional players, college all-stars, and area college and high school coaches.

NICK GRETZ – GENERAL MANAGER/HEAD TRAINER

NICK GRETZ – GENERAL MANAGER/HEAD TRAINER

After a stellar high school career where Nick batted over .400, he went on to play for the College of Southern Idaho where he was All Conference and All Region in 1996-1997. He played for the University of Southern Alabama where he was named to the all Region team, voted as the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week in 2001, and also named All Conference in 1999 and in 2001. Nick continued on with the Colorado Rockies from 2001 to 2004 and the Saint Paul Saints from 2004 to 2006. While playing for these teams he was named to the Northern League All-Star Teams in 2002 & 2004, and was part of the Northern League Championship Team with the Saints in 2004. Nick will be available to teach all around skills, focusing on the fundamentals of hitting.

 
MEGGAN STATON

MEGGAN STATON - SOFTBALL GENERAL MANAGER

General Manager for Softball giving lessons seven days a week and running pitching and hitting clinics throughout the fall, winter and spring. Staton was a three-time all-state fast pitch player from Anoka, MN. She pitched and played first base in college (South Dakota State University; St. Cloud State University) setting numerous records in her career. Staton is a current head coach at a local high school and was the assistant coach for the 3A State High School League Championship team in 2007. She has coached softball at various youth and young adult levels. Last summer (2007) her team, Sting ’91 placed 14th out of 144 teams at ASA nationals in Sioux Falls, SD. Meggan is a specialty coach in pitching, hitting, along with motivation, mental preparation and preparing athletes for college. Other areas include: basic and advanced fielding, throwing and conditioning. Meggan plans, organizes and scripts specialty clinics. Meggan is a graduate of St. Cloud State University and has a Bachelors of Science in Recreation and Sports Management with emphasis on Coaching and Marketing.

 
MIKE EICHER –INSTRUCTOR

MIKE EICHER – INSTRUCTOR

Mike played Division I Baseball at Texas Christina University (TCU) in Fort Worth, TX, where he led TCU in home runs both his freshman and junior years. Mike holds the highest fielding percentage record for the Southwest Conference doing it as an everyday shortstop. While at TCU Mike not only played baseball, he graduated with a degree in Bio-Medical Science, Computer Science and received a Masters in Physics. Mike continued on to play in the minor leagues playing for the Padres and Ranger organizations where he led his league again with the highest fielding percentages. Mike played with the Minneapolis Millers and the Minnetonka Saints for several years and is currently playing amateur ball on a team that has won two consecutive titles. Mike is a defensive specialist and will be teaching skills at all infield positions, hitting and catching. 

 

Dave Johnson – Pitching/ Hitting Instructor

Dave is a 1994 graduate of Apple Valley high school where he was all-section and all-state honorable mention his senior year. Dave went on to play at Concordia University in St. Paul, MN where he was a 4 year starter. He established many single season records (RBI's, wins, strikeouts), and career records (games, at bats, runs, hits, doubles, RBI's, and strikeouts). Dave is currently playing amateur ball for the Miesville Mudhens where he is a player/coach. He was part of the 2007 state championship team last year. Dave will be available to teach all around skills, focusing on Pitching and Hitting.

 
Chris Kerpan

Chris Kerpan – Instructor

Chris had an outstanding senior season at Waukegan High School as he batted .454 with 47 hits, 33 runs and a school record of 41 RBI…..Also set a single season mark for home runs with 11 and also owns Waukegan’s career record for home runs with 25….also added 12 doubles and three triples as a senior. Chris went on to play at University of Illinois-Chicago as a first baseman. Chris earned a spot on the MCC All0Newcomer Team after a stellar rookie campaign. In 2001, he played in all 43 games and compiled a .338 batting average, which was second highest on the squad. Chris will be available to teach all around skills, focusing on the fundamentals of hitting.

 

Michaela Potts – Pitching/ Hitting Instructor

Michaela Potts is an All State Selection, 2001, pitcher out of Lakeville, MN. As the team captain, Michaela was a two-time All Region and two-time All Conference award winner 2000, 2001. Primarily a Pitcher and Clean-up hitter, with her second position at 3rd base. Michaela, as a five- year Varsity Letter winner, lead her high-school team to the State Championship game in 2001. Michaela went on to participate in the MIAC division collegiate conference, pitching at the College of St. Benedict. Michaela is available for pitching and hitting lessons.

 

Becky Henning - Extra Innings Instructor

Becky Henning is a graduate of Southwest Minnesota State University were she played 4 years for the Mustangs as a catcher/3rd baseman. During college she spent her summers on the field coaching junior softball players from age 5 through 15. While attending Graduate School at St Cloud State University she was a graduate assistant coach for the SCSU Huskies under the direction of Paula U'Ren. Becky is available for hitting, fielding, catching and agility sessions.

 
 

Amanda Gage - Extra Innings Instructor

Amanda is a 2001 graduate of Forest Lake Senior High where she had numerous post-season awards throughout her high school career. During her senior year she was honored with the opportunity to play in the Minnesota State High School League Softball All-Star Tournament. Amanda went on to play at Hamline University, in St. Paul, MN where she was a 4 year starter at Second Base. She has been called the most decorated softball player in Hamline history. Amanda, is a 3-Time NFCA All-American, 4-Time All-Region, and 4-Time MIAC All-Conference performer and holds many records. She has coached at the collegiate level and currently coaches at a local high school. Amanda graduated from Hamline University with a B.A. in Physical Education and holds a K-12 Teaching License. Amanda is available for hitting and fielding lessons.

 

Jake Whitney - Extra Innings Instructor

A left handed pitcher with 7 years Professional Experience. In 1998 he was drafted by the Houston Astros after being a 4 year starter at Iowa State University. He was a member of the NY Penn League Champion in 1998,2002 and a 2003 Team USA Member. In 2001 he was a Post Season All-Star with the St. Paul Saints, and a 2003 All-Star with the St. Paul Saints. Jake has 50+ wins in Professional Career to along with 600+ Strikeouts.

 

Ryan Fixell - Extra Innings Instructor

Ryan attended Coon Rapids High School where he was a 3 year letter winner. He went on to pitch at Concordia – St. Paul on a four year athletic scholarship under coach Lunch Mackenzie. Ryan also has done numerous camps including instruction at USA Baseball, Joe Mauer Quickswing hitting instructor, and has done private instruction for 5 years. Ryan currently plays for the Coon Rapids Redbirds and leads his team in career wins, strikeouts, and career innings pitched. Ryan is available to teach all aspects of the game.

 

Jon Oiseth - Extra Innings Instructor

Jon is a native of Burnsville, MN and graduate of Minnehaha Academy where he excelled as a pitcher for the Redhawks. Jon went on to play for Kansas State University from 1994-97 where he still holds records for games started and innings pitched. Jon was drafted in the 31st round of the 1997 entry draft by the San Diego Padres where he played two seasons with the affiliate Idaho Falls Braves and Clinton Lumber Kings. Jon then went on to spend 2 seasons at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri from 2003-04 serving as their pitching coach. Jon will be available to teach all around skills focusing on pitching.

 

Spencer Ingaldson - Extra Innings Instructor

Spencer attended Stevens High School in South Dakota where he was a 4 year letter winner. Spencer helped lead his American Legion Team to state titles in 2000, 2001, and 2002 behind the plate as a catcher. Spencer continued on to play 4 years at Purdue University and was named to the All Big Ten Team in his junior season. In the Summer Spencer also played for the Duluth Huskies in the Northwoods League and the Hornell Dodgers of the New York League. Spencer is available to teach all aspects of the game focusing on catching and fielding.

 

Amanda Yurek - Primary Nike Sparq’s Trainer - Softball Hitting/Catching/Agility Instructor

Amanda Yurek was a 3 sport athlete, volleyball, basketball and softball, at Cretin Derham Hall High School.  A 4 year starter for the Concordia University St. Paul Golden Bears, Yurek hit .331 (229-692) in 232 career games starting in 231.  She had 20 HR’s, 51 doubles, and 5 triples while driving in 120 RBI’s and scoring 128 runs.  She was 11-12 in stolen bases and had a career record with a .961 fielding percentage.  Yurek holds 8 career records at Concordia University.  Amanda is an experienced coach working individually with many different levels of athletes, and leading clinics for catching, hitting and speed strength and agility.  She is available for private catching, hitting and speed strength and agility training. 

 

Josh Mason- Pitching/Hitting/Fielding Instructor

Josh attended Sycamore High School in Cincinnati and was a 3 year varsity starting pitcher and tri captain. He then moved on to Indiana Wesleyan University serving as a starting pitcher and catcher. Josh also was an instructor in multiple summer and winter high school and college baseball camps throughout Indiana and Ohio. Josh was a teammate of current Boston Red Sox all star Kevin Youkilis while attending Sycamore High School. Josh will be available to teach all around skills focusing on pitching, hitting, and fielding.
